New survey finds that talking therapies have the greatest positive impact on mental health
(UK Council for Psychotherapy, 2023)
A recent survey revealed that nearly one in five participants expressed concern for their mental health, with over half of those affected facing obstacles in seeking support, often due to stigma and feelings of embarrassment. Notably, men were less inclined to seek help, reflecting societal norms. This underscores the importance of breaking down barriers and encouraging everyone to prioritize their mental well-being.

Interestingly, many who sought mental health support didn't experience improvements, especially those who accessed services through GPs. However, those who did improve mostly received psychotherapy or counseling, indicating the effectiveness of these approaches over others like smartphone apps or medications. This highlights the pressing need for more talking therapies to achieve better outcomes.

The findings emphasize the necessity for GPs, health providers, and therapists to collaborate in raising awareness about diverse mental health support options. Effective support is paramount in addressing mental health challenges. This study underscores the urgency of prioritizing a variety of talking therapies for a more positive future.
